Why start surfing in Seignosse?

Penon beach in Seignosse is one of the best spots on the Landes coast for learning to surf.

The sandy bottom, consistent waves and shallow water near the shore offer ideal conditions for beginners. The spot is lifeguard-patrolled in season with easy parking access.

JB, our state-certified instructor with BNSSA lifeguard qualification, chooses the best time slot each day based on tides and swell to give you the most beginner-friendly conditions.

Beginner programme

What you'll learn

A structured first surf lesson to discover the basics safely.

  1. Beach briefing

    Before entering the water, JB explains safety rules, how waves work and the basics of positioning on the board. You'll practise the take-off (the move to stand up) on the sand until it becomes automatic.

  2. First steps in the water

    You start in the whitewater (broken waves), where the water is shallow and waves are gentle. It's the ideal environment to get comfortable on the board and attempt your first real take-offs.

  3. Stand up and ride

    The goal of your first lesson: stand up on the board and ride a wave. JB coaches you wave after wave, corrects your posture in real time and helps you build confidence.

Practical info for your first lesson

Equipment included

Beginner-friendly foam surfboard and wetsuit are provided. Just bring a swimsuit and a towel.

Health requirements

Ability to swim is recommended. If you're unsure, chat with JB before the lesson. Surfing requires a reasonable level of fitness.

When to come?

The school runs from April to November. Summer has the gentlest conditions for beginners, but spring and autumn are also excellent with fewer crowds.

Meeting point & times

Meet at Penon beach car park, near the Kiwadu Mobile. The exact time depends on the tides — JB confirms it when you book.
